4 Things You Should Never Do When Traveling In Mexico

Mexico is one of the most sought-after vacation spots in the world, and for a very good reason.  Known for its rich culture, beautiful scenery, and fantastic food, it’s no wonder why it’s so popular amongst tourists.

Along with its charms and beauty, however, also comes the need to be careful in certain situations.  Mexico’s beauty comes along with things to look out for that everyone should consider before they go.

When it comes to the things you should absolutely avoid before going to Mexico, make sure you put these on the top of your list.

Go To Jail

Mexican jails are not known for being a five-star experience. Ideally, you should stay out of jail regardless of where you are, but make sure that you definitely avoid it in Mexico.

You may find yourself laughing at the idea and assume that it could never happen to you.  However, no tourist in a Mexican jail cell ever expected to be there when they got off the plane.

The most common reason that tourists find themselves getting bailed out of jail is usually for disorderly conduct.  All it takes is a few tequila shots and a feeling of being invincible to land yourself in an expensive night in jail.  All inclusive margaritas are definitely not included.

Drink The Tap Water

Most people have heard the jokes about the tap water in Mexico and the rumors about how it can lead to horrible diarrhea.  You’ll be interested to know that the rumors are totally accurate. Since their water doesn’t have the same filtering system, it’s not safe to drink.

If you want to drink water, you’ll have to purchase it.  While the water is safe to bathe in, it’s not recommended to use even for rinsing your mouth out after brushing your teeth.  You’re better off erring on the side of caution and keeping it out of your mouth altogether.

Wander In Unsafe Areas

There are plenty of safe places in Mexico where a tourist can feel at home without worrying about being in danger.  However, there are just as many places which should be avoided due to high crime.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with where you should and should not go in the destination you’re traveling to.

Get In A Non-Certified Taxi

Kidnapping is a reality in some parts of Mexico.  One of the most common ways that it occurs is by getting into a cab which isn’t certified.

Always be sure to get in a cab which has their license displayed and has a working meter.  That way you know that you’re not risking putting yourself into harm’s way.
